Nepal House Society Fundraiser April, 8, 2011
Thornhill, Ontario
We had our first Nepal House fundraiser on April 8, 2011 in Thornhill, ON.
I have known Ashwin since 2003 and have seen his passion to help people since I met him. When I came to know that he had been involved in this, Nepal House Society organization I knew that it was an organization that I would come to support. I understand the structure of what Nepal House envisions and asked Ashwin if a women/ladies night would be appropriate to raise awareness for Nepal House. Ashwin was supportive of the idea and thought it would be appropriate as the timing was in line with the girls school opening this May 2011.
The evening was designed for women to come and enjoy each other’s company. As women we do sustain economies and communities so decided to make this evening about women’s health and wellness. We started the evening with a yoga and meditation class led by Mrs. Roopa Makwana, a well know and fantastic yoga teacher here in Ontario. The class was calming and really helped relax all the ladies as well as bring all the positive energy together. We then had some dinner that was very graciously donated by some of the attendees. On the menu was burritos, bourekas, guacamole, vegetables, and for dessert assorted cakes and pastries. The ladies really enjoyed the food and we generated great conversation during dinner. We then had a local make up artist by the name of Dimple Joshi give us beauty tips for our skin and faces which also was well received by the women as we all learned something we did not know before. I had also planned a discussion around Anxiety as I find that through stressors in our life we often have anxious moments. But unfortunately we didn’t really get to the discussion as we were all chatting and having much fun that the time had flown by and it was time to bring the evening to an end. I would like to thank Dr. Priya Prasad for providing me with the material to begin discussion on anxiety and what anxiety looks like.
Lastly we had a raffle draw as well and thanks to the kind and caring members of our community we had an outpouring of donated prizes for our raffle draw. I would like to take this time to hand out an extra special thanks to:
WANT boutique for donating a gift certificate for one to the lucky ladies. Want Boutique is a ladies boutique in Ontario that provides fashion friendly clothes for women. They also generously gave every attendee a discount card for the next time they shop at the WANT boutique.
Thornhill Eye Care who donated a very trendy pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses. Thanks so much to Dr. Sharma who did not even hesitate to say yes before I barely even approached him.
Moksha Yoga Maple who is committed to people’s health and wellness donated an unlimited yoga pass to one of the lucky ladies. Thanks for supporting us in our cause to keep us healthy.
Dimple Joshi by Dimple Joshi make up designs not only presented but also gave the lucky ladies make up and body washes to take raffle off and were enjoyed by the recipients who won those.
Leon at Black Sea Salon and Spa donated a complimentary blow dry. Thanks Leon for making our hair look good!
Life Beautiful and luxury life style brand graciously donated unique design 2-piece candle set for décor purposes. Thanks again Ms. Vora.
Floradale Medical Pharmacy thanks for the sunscreen and moisturizers to help our skin look healthy.
I would like to give an extra special thanks to Roopa, Dimple and Priya for preparing presentations that were informative, funny and relative to the women attending.
And for everyone that came and enjoyed thank you so much for the support and look forward to more evenings like this in the future.
